Cherished Nanny of eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Peacefully in hospital, Shawville, Québec on Friday, July 18, 2014 at the age of 74 years.  Beloved wife of 55 years of Denis Lépine.  Loving mother of Micheline (Jean Charbonneau), Jeannine (Brian Liko), André (Carol Ronaldi) and the late Brigitte Denise.  Dear grandmother of Martin, Mélanie, Valérie (Maxime Champagne), Myriam, Katrine, Bryana and Kevin.  Dear great grandmother of Xavier and Alexia. Predeceased by her parents Ella and Léo Boisvert.  Survived by her brothers Loyola (Odette), Clarence (Liane), her sisters Beatrice (late Burke) & Freda.  Predeceased by brother Laurier and his wife Suzanne. A sincere thank you to the staff of the Shawville hospital and her physician, Dr. Lucie Mutchmore for the excellent care provided. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Funeral will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in St.John's the Evangelist Church, 160 Front St., Campbell's Bay, Québec. Interment Parish Cemetery. BLACK (nee Pirie), Eleanor

Eleanor passed away peacefully with family by her side in hospital, Shawville, Quebec, on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the age of 88 years. Predeceased by her one true love, husband Allan Black in 2006, as well as son William (Irene) in 1998, and granddaughter Andrea. Eleanor is survived by her son Gordon and daughter-in-law Kathy, grandsons Douglas (Leslie-Ann), Robert (Sarah) and William Jr. (Maria). She is also survived by great grandchildren Hayley, Joshua, Morgan, Charlotte, Kelsey and great-great granddaughter Candece as well as extended family; Marie Jose and Diego. Eleanor also leaves to mourn brothers George (Winnifred) & Clayton and sister Joy (late Dalton Hodgins) as well as Aunt Elsie Gordon and uncle John Dunlop. Also predeceased by parents Edwin & Sadie (nee Dunlop) Pirie and brother William (late Anne). Eleanor will be missed by many nieces & nephews whom she adored. Eleanor’s many accomplishments include teaching, UCW member, the Eastern Star, Shawville Municipal Councilor, Veteran’s Memorial Park advocate and author of a book on the Shawville/Clarendon Fire Department. MERCIER, Matthew

The family announces with profound sorrow, the passing of Matthew Mercier at the Ottawa Civic Hospital on June 29, 2014 at the age of 20. Matthew enjoyed life. He loved spending time with his family and friends and was very passionate about hunting and fishing. He will always be known as “The Friendly Giant”. He had a heart of gold and touched many lives with his beautiful smile. BROCK, Nelson

Peacefully in hospital, Shawville, Quebec with his daughter Karen, son-in-law Doug and his special nurse Karen Bean (Doug’s sister) by his side on Saturday, June 28, 2014 in his 93rd year.  Nelson and Ruth were joined together once again on their special day- their wedding anniversary.  He is survived by children Barry and his wife Janice, Karen Bean and her husband Doug, grandchildren Jeff Bean and his wife Deb Riordon-Bean, Shari-Lynn McNulty and her husband Dwayne, great grandchildren Thomas and Alexandra Bean and Evan and Charlotte McNulty, sisters-in-law Catherine Brock of Richmond, Quebec, Mildred Robinson of Inverness, Quebec, Irma Stanley of Shawville and many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his parents Gertrude Mastine and William Brock, brother Spencer and sister Mildred Goodfellow, brothers-in-law John (late Jean), Reggie Stanley, Archie Stanley, Bernard Robinson and Lucille (late Frank Burns).  Nelson was a well known farmer and councilor in the farming community of St. Felix de Kingsey.  He entertained with his fiddle, guitar and keyboarding and up until the first part of May he still entertained with his fiddle the residents of the Wilson Home in Campbell’s Bay, Quebec.  Nelson and Ruth moved to Stittsville in 1984 and enjoyed a long retirement in many community activities. He also left us with many legacies of his excellent woodworking projects.  A Memorial Service celebrating Nelson’s life will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, 1619 Main Street, Stittsville, Ontario on Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.  Donations to the Pontiac Community Hospital Foundation can be made in Nelson’s memory.

Passed away peacefully in hospital, Shawville, Québec, on Friday, June 20, 2014, in his 87th year.  Predeceased by his loving wife Edith (Spinks). ROWAT, Carol

Carol Rowat died on June 12, 2014, at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal at the age of 78. Born in Campbell's Bay, Que., she attended Shawville High School and graduated from McGill University with a bachelor of science in 1957. She taught secondary school in St. Lambert and Shawville before marrying Raymond Rowat, notary, of Shawville, Que.,her husband of 53 years. After raising a family of six children, she returned to the workforce at Pontiac High School, first as a supply teacher and later in the professional adult day programs of the Western Quebec School Board. Throughout her life, she was an active member of Shawville United Church. She loved her family and friends of UCW unit 6, and enjoyed professional sports, baking bread and the puzzles page. But she will be remembered, above all, for her selfless acts of kindness. Carol was the daughter of Kenneth and Pearl Smith of Shawville. She is survived by her husband Raymond, sister Gail (Herbert Hayes), sons Douglas (Pamela), David (Mary-Lise), Robert (Darly) and Andrew (Kara), daughters Nancy (Ernest) and Alison (Rusty), and 11 grandchildren.   Friends may call at Hayes Funeral Home, 134 Centre Street, Shawville, Quebec on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. No visitation on Tuesday. RYAN, William

Of Ottawa, ON and Sheenboro, QC, passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the age of 71 years, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 20, 1943 in Wareham, Mass., USA, to the late Najala (Nee Kawaja) and the late William Talmadge Head (Purple Heart/Silver Cross).  Following his father’s death in WWII, his mother remarried to the late James W. Ryan (QC) and the family moved to North Sydney, Nova Scotia for ten years and then on to Alberta. Upon his arrival in Ottawa from Edmonton, at the age of 19, he met the love of his life, Rosita Walker. Married 49 years, Bill (Grindy) and Rosita raised a wild and fun loving family and had many adventures together in Newfoundland, Ontario and Quebec. Bill was highly regarded throughout his career in the financial industry in Eastern Ontario. Adored by his four children: Dale (Christine), Lisa, Tracey (Glenn Silverson), and James (Sophal).  Devoted grandfather to Liam, Ryan, Emma-Rose, Tyler, Alyssa, Zacharie & Aquilina. Loving brother to Joan McNulty (John) of Chesterville and Catherine Offierski (Peter) of Peterborough.

Bill loved creating, whether restoring furniture, crafting beautiful wooden treasures for friends and family, or tending lovely landscaped gardens for all to enjoy. Always accompanied by a cherished dog friend throughout his life, he treasured wildlife and the outdoors. Bill will be remembered for his detailed story telling and humorous surprise endings. Gracious, charming and kind, Bill drew people to him and will be missed by many. Above all, as a man of great faith, he was a gentle, thoughtful and devoted father. He was a pillar of strength to his children who admired him for his patience and positive disposition.
